“Forgive me for soiling myself – I’ve been extremely busy” …..

Okay, so every day I work with people who want help to lose weight,  look better and feel better – and more often than not they are struggling because they have a full plate. ( No pun intended ) They are running around like chooks with their heads cut off fulfilling their many roles in life, mother, wife, friend, employer, employee without remembering to look after themselves.  In most cases there is a serious lack of value placed on themselves to be a fully functional, balanced and healthy individual. It seems obvious that you wouldn’t put diesel in your petrol tank  so why do you make poor food choices on the run and still demand a high quality performance ? ( I am talking from experience here … notice I said “seems” obvious )

This is Linden Magee, Australian Motorbike Champion, teasing me for putting diesel in my Scooter ! The boys called me "Turbo" for months after that...dang it !

Here are some of the most inspiring women I know and three of my favourite bestest friends and didn’t I make them giggle when I shared with them a story about me giving advice to a vet who said she had no time to eat.  I retold the story, whilst stuffing myself with a fritatta , ” Well, you don’t stay at the operating table and wee yourself and say Oh shoot, sorry about that – just got too busy at work today.”

Eating is a bodily function. Pooing and Weeing is a bodily function. You need to make time for both, otherwise there’s going to be trouble ! Can you tell that even with all my achievements and “maturity” there is still an inner child squealing with delight when I am naughty ( she’s about 6 )  So, let’s just say it again for good measure.

Poo and Wee.

When I was little I bit my cousin Josh's back for opening up the Christmas presents too early. It gets reenacted every year, some things never change ;)

Okay got that off my 6 year old chest now : )

 Anyway, back to the lesson of  my story.
When you look after your nutrition and your health FIRST,
  1. You don’t wonder where your time went today and wonder why it feels like you got nothing done.  That’s because you have better time management skills – because you can actually concentrate on your multi tasking! By the way, it’s not called multi tasking if you have 8 windows open on your computer and you’re in the middle of 4 unfinished jobs – that’s just called procrastinating!
  2. You don’t berate yourself for not being ”better’. You have a renewed sense of vigour and vitality to approach the day and you have the energy to BE the great leader, creator, and amazing mother, wife, friend that you can be.
  3. You’re not a wall flower. People refer to you in terms such as you’ve just “got it” and that there is a certain “je ne sais quoi” about you. People admire you and want to be associated with you.
  4. You have a life. You create MORE useable time for yourself, instead of giving yourself to just work, household duties, kids, partner, then flop on the couch and fall asleep in front of the tv at 8:30.
  5. You make more money. You can create more opportunities for yourself, because you have the energy and focus to act on your instincts.
  6. You look better ! You stop talking about yourself with terms like – jelly belly, fat bum, wobbly bits, tuckshop lady arms - because you think if you laugh about it, it hides how much it does affect you . Self depreciation is disempowering and take your concentration off what it is you really want to achieve.
  7. You feel better about yourself . You don’t waste time in front of the mirror, changing outfits, dissecting every part of your body, giving it an unflattering name whilst grabbing the flesh and wobbling it and screwing your face up. (No, there’s no camera in your bathroom, I just know you do it because I’ve done that too !

I could go on, but really there are many many symptoms, and really only one cause at the heart of it . Below is your hierarchy of responsibility which my fitness marketing mentor gave me a very stern talking to about . Yes, I tell this story to you with passion and direction because I too fall victim to not putting myself first.

YOU are the foundation of everything. And therefore you must put YOURSELF first and then the rest of the people in your life in the following order. When you get this right everything works. When something is off, I believe you can almost always trace it back to this hierarchy being "out of whack".

If you aren’t a business owner, you can put “Your Boss” or “Work” instead of “Your Team, but I’m sure you get the drift.  However,  most women in business look more like this

The foundation is broken. Current work structure gives too much client focus, while ignoring your own health and success, and the responsibilities you have to yourself first, your family and friends who count on you second, leaves a very WEAK foundation. Could you continue like this? I guess so... But all you need is the slightest push to send the whole thing crashing down. That's why you need to recognise the urgency in addressing this NOW and not later

I’m going to talk more about your Responsibility Pyramid later, but in the meantime please just make me one promise.

Today you will both make time to eat 3 nutritious meals, and 2 healthy snacks , 6 – 8 glasses of water ASWELL as going to the toilet.

And you will feel all the more better for it

Until then !

Bianca :)

    Thanks for the pep-talk , Bianca ! It sure makes sense to me!!
    .If you take one hour out of the 24 available- for your own training–you will definitely reap the benefits – and then you might decide to take a bit more time , for yourself
    , to meditate
    and even educate yourself – .
    Reading an “oxygen” magazine ,
    or a Sculptlife article !!!
    does count as personal education.

    Thanks for the chance to put myself first today in a couple of ways : -
    Sculptlife Bootcamp in the morning ;
    an email from Sculptlife at morning tea ;
    and am looking forward to a half hour or so of weights tonight with a little bit of meditation while I am doing DownTime .

    Thanks Sculptlife!Thanks Bionika Bianca !!
